With the rise of telecommuting and online education, the demand for laptops has skyrocketed. HP, Lenovo, and Dell lead the way in sales, according to TrendForce. Huawei has not reached the top position among those who sell the most, but it aspires to it with equipment such as Huawei MateBook X Pro, among others. This device brings features to compete in the high range and safely get the most out of it without sacrificing design.
Performance: the power to spare
When it comes to performance for the most common uses in an office or leisure time, you will not be short of the tenth generation Intel Core i7-10510U processor and 16 GB of RAM. It executes all the orders very quickly and has not left us hanging at any time, despite having many tabs open. It shouldn’t be a problem loading demanding programs, and you shouldn’t experience slowdowns when you push it to the limit. The Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics card is more than capable of viewing multimedia content and playing games as long as the games are not too demanding. Come on; it’s not a gaming laptop; it’s for casual gamers.
You do not have to worry about the space to store documents, videos and everything you need. Bring a 1 TB SSD-type hard drive that is faster and more durable than conventional ones (HDDs).
In connectivity, we only miss compatibility with Wifi 6, a technology still in its infancy but bringing many advantages. For audio, it has four speakers, capable of filling a room with sound, and it does its job without shining.
In these times of virtual meetings and video calls, the laptop’s webcam has gained prominence. One of these models has the peculiarity of integrating it into the keyboard. You click on that key, and it appears. It is hidden when you do not use it, ensuring that no one can spy on you through it. “Camouflaged” on the keyboard leaves room on the screen for a thinner bezel, but in that place, it does not favour as much as those found on the cover, taking the plan from below. And if you get too close to the laptop, it cuts your head off. In terms of image quality, it lacks a bit of sharpness but more than meets the mark for regular online sessions.
Security also comes from a circular fingerprint reader built into the keyboard area. It works well and is very comfortable to unlock access to the computer.
If you have a Huawei phone, it is possible to transfer files (without consuming data) by simply tapping the phone on the Huawei Share sticker on the keyboard. This process uses 1 second for each photo or video transferred. In our tests, we selected 25 files from the photo gallery of a P30 Pro, and in 25 seconds, we already had them on the big screen, inside a photo editor.
Huawei Share also allows you to view the mobile content on the laptop screen, and since it is a touch screen, you can open or close applications as if they were the phone screen. For example, we have used it to select songs from Spotify and read and answer WhatsApp messages through the PC screen.
Battery to watch flip series
One of the features we give most importance to in any device is autonomy, and that of the MateBook X Pro is very good: it reaches eight and a half hours of video with the screen brightness at half and the sound low, according to our tests. With average use, you can expect this time to be prolonged. The battery charges fast, in approximately two hours and forty minutes, via USB-C, with an adapter (65 W) similar to that of a mobile phone in design, only larger. This charger is very advantageous when travelling, as it does not take up much space or weight.
Huawei MateBook X Pro is a laptop that doesn’t stand out for its innovation or design but is taken as a whole, and it’s a reliable team with which to work all day long and entertain yourself with multimedia content. It will fit you if you are looking for an elegant, light, powerful device with good autonomy, especially if you have a phone from the same manufacturer. Huawei Share is one of those functions that, once you get used to using it, you always need it. It is straightforward to use without needing a base or dock.
The webcam on the keyboard does not take your best shot, and there will be those who do not care about this and others who do. In return, the narrow bezels draw the eye to the MateBook X Pro’s screen, and you get the assurance that no one will spy on you.
A few months ago, we would not have pointed out the absence of Wifi 6 as a disadvantage, but now there is a wide range of compatible routers (in Spain), and this technology brings many advantages. A laptop supporting it is essential if you are looking for the best. It is Like if you buy a high-end phone today without 5G, you’re just not ready to get the most advanced. What we like least about the Huawei MateBook X Pro is its price: 1,899 euros, but it is already known that good things do not usually come cheap.
