It is a high-end slimline computer, which comes in a white cardboard box with the brand’s logo on the front. It comes in a reasonably thick box because the charger comes at the bottom of it. Inside, we have the computer in light black and a Chinese version charger with a European adapter of various voltages: 5V=3A, 9V=3A, 12=3A, 15V=3A, and 20V=3.25A output. The charger pins are foldable to take up less space.
This computer does not have a particular slot for charging; like a mobile phone, it will be charged by the USB type C cable. They have not mentioned that they will bring this device to Spain, so if you want it, you can get it at Lightinthebox.
Design and Screen
Like many computers, this Xiaomi has a similar design to the Apple MacBook Air or the Asus ZenBook, although without the logo on the lid.
Its dimensions are 36.7cm wide, 24.3cm long, and only 1.5cm thick. Despite these measures, its weight is 1950gr, a bit heavy to carry daily.
The finishes are exquisite, and the color chosen for the dark matte gray computer makes it lovely and distinguishable from Macs.
As we lift the lid, we find a 15.1-inch IPS screen with an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and Corning Corilla Glass 3 protection. This screen’s quality is excellent and looks good in any condition and from almost any angle. Above it is the webcam. Remember that this screen is not touched.
The keyboard has a QUERTY layout without Ñ, with white backlit keys. In addition, the letters are very well marked, with a separation of several millimeters between them. Thanks to the keyboard light, you can see well in low light. The “touchpad” is very comfortable and has a small fingerprint sensor to unlock it immediately. (To use the fingerprint reader, it is necessary to add a password and a pin code to it).
As we have already mentioned, the back is metallic and does not have the brand’s logo. At the bottom, we have two speakers on each side and a ventilation slot that crosses the entire laptop. As in the latest computers and most mobiles, the battery is no longer removable without tools.
We find 2 USB 3.0 ports on the left side, followed by the 3.5mm Jack connector for audio. On the contrary, on the right, we have the HDMI connector, two USB Type C (one with a LED that indicates charging), and a slot for a memory card.
From my point of view, it is an excellent computer with a good distribution of ports. However, I think one of the USB types, C, should be a standard USB since there are not many devices with this input yet.
Power and Hardware
First of all, it should be mentioned that it is a computer that is around €950 in Chinese stores, and despite this, it is a laptop with unique features and very little to envy other brands.
To begin with, it has the latest generation (8th generation) Intel i7-8550U 4-core processor with an average operating frequency of 1.8Ghz and a maximum of 4.0Ghz. This processor has a 64-bit architecture and is manufactured in 14nm. The L3 cache memory is 8MB. In addition, it adds an external NVIDIA GeForce® MX150 graphics card with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, ideal for video game lovers that have a maximum execution frequency of 6008MHz
Mention that it has 16GB of DDR4 RAM in a dual channel for more incredible speed. This RAM has a rate of 2400MHz. This configuration is the maximum supported by the computer.
As for storage, it has a 256GB NVMe SSD hard drive placed in a PCIe slot; it is also expandable through another space. This makes turning on the computer virtually instantaneous.
To put this computer to the test, we have subjected it to the Benchmarking test, AnTuTu, obtaining results of 323,898 points.
Similarly, I have also tried to pass the Mark10 performance test or even the Mark8 (a benchmarking test used only for computers), but when I reached the end of the trial, I got an error, and I did not get an overall score.
After trying it for a week, to browse the internet, with office automation programs, or even to play online, it has behaved correctly.
When I was playing, I tried “Minecraft” and the fashionable game “Fortnite Battle Royale,” and the gameplay was quite good. At first, it showed a lot of “lag” when playing “Fortnite,” but later, after setting the computer to “High performance” mode and configuring the game settings, I achieved complete gameplay.
The device sounds excellent and loud but not as straightforward as possible. It has a double stereo speaker at the bottom that provides good volume but adds distortion to the sound. After putting it through a sound level meter app to measure sound intensity, I got 72 DBS at max volume. This value can be increased if we do not cover the speakers that are in the lower part.
As for the cooling system, it has a double fan (symmetrically) so that it does not overheat. I have to say that, during the entire operation, they are pretty silent.
Camera
This computer incorporates a small 1Mpx camera in the center capable of recording at 720 points to use as a webcam.
The quality of the photos is poor, especially in the absence of light, but it is more than enough to use in video calls.
