The businessman affirms that the implant is practically invisible to the human eye and that the monkey is “happy”
During a conversation on the ClubHouse social network, businessman Elon Musk wanted to show off the progress of his company Neuralink, stating that they have already managed to implant a chip in the brain of a monkey “so that it can play video games.”
Along with Tesla and SpaceX, Neuralink is one of Elon Musk’s best-known ventures, pursuing to implant computational elements in the human brain to listen to music without headphones, control hormones, or fix medical ailments.
During the conversation, the South African businessman based in the United States surprised the audience with this unusual progress. “We have a monkey with an implant with tiny wires placed in its skull that can play video games with its mind,” said Musk. “You can’t see where the implant is and it’s a happy monkey,” he said.
The controversial businessman also boasted that they had “the most beautiful facilities for monkeys in the world where we want them to play pong with their minds between them.” Pong is a popular pastime at North American parties that involves straining a small ball into a glass.
According to Elon Musk, the goal of his company Neuralink is that its brain connectivity technology can treat brain and spinal pathologies through implanted chips.
“There are primitive versions with this device with cables that stick out of your head but it is like Fitbit in your skull with small cables that reach your brain”, sums up the businessman himself during the talk at ClubHouse.
