The 4th edition of the most important design competition in the capital kicks off with a multitude of activities related to architecture, fashion, crafts and gastronomy.
During the months of February and March, Madrid becomes the showcase for national design. The initiative, which consists of approximately 200 activities and which has the sponsorship of private entities and the city council as the main promoter, will on this occasion promote the digital bet with its own channel on the web.
Among the face-to-face activities are exhibitions, round tables, talks with international designers, showrooms, co-living rooms, book presentations, seminars, workshops, design routes, etc …
EXHIBITIONS
On February 9, several exhibitions start at the Fernán Gómez Cultural Center of La Villa. One dedicated to the city of Valencia, which will be the capital of design in 2022 (Valencia Pavilion. The Future is Design), another that aims to give visibility to Spanish designers who work in the capital (Madrid Design Portrait). A third called Emergency! Designs against COVID-19 and, finally, Connected, a call where international designers will exhibit their multipurpose tables, including the creative Jaime Hayón (who will receive the festival award).
Two classics of national design will be honored on this occasion. On the one hand, Javier Mariscal at the Alcobendas Art Center (ABCDarioMARISCAL) and on the other, Pepe Cruz Novillo at the Francisco de Vitoria University with the exhibition A poster for Pepe Cruz.
SPACE FOR REFLECTION
The CentroCentro space in Cibeles will host various meetings such as the Ideas de Ciudad, a space for reflection where experts in different disciplines will debate the present and future of cities. Another Gray Matter, with biodegradable nature projects and #Firetalkwithme audiovisual show on fashion curated by Ana Locking.
On February 16 at the Royal Botanical Garden the photography exhibition N5 is inaugurated, which is a project by Omar Ayyashi and the designer Manuel Fernández in which Spanish actresses participate as models with the theme of gender equality in the background.
In Photoespañagallery, of the Factory, there will be a sample of the magazine ‘Matador’, emblem of the house, which turns 25.
On February 11, the Fundación Telefónica will premiere Joanie Lemercier’s exhibition called Paisajes de Luz. The work of this artist focuses on the use of light through projections in space.
At Andreu World (Calle Velazquez 86A) the meeting Possibly the most sustainable armchair in the world will be presented with the renowned designer Patricia Urquiola and the book Sillipedia, 101 stories of chairs.
