As the headphone jack connection has been losing its presence in mobile phones, wireless headphones have gained increasing prominence, being an opportunity for both veteran companies and young firms. Today there are no perfect wireless headphones, and because of them, there are options for all pockets.
Fresh ‘n Rebel is a young company that, from the outset, has wanted to stand out in products that offer a reasonable degree of quality but that, beyond music or technology, have a significant focus on design. Today they have just presented their new headphones, two products representing the best the company can do in the world of headphones.
TWS earphones are a type of earphone that has become one of the best options for our day-to-day life, being an easy-to-carry earphone style, comfortable to wear, and with a good enough degree of sound quality and battery. . If in addition to this, we add ambient noise cancellation to isolate ourselves from the annoying noises of everyday life, as well as ambient sound mode, there are few excuses to have one in your pockets.
At a particular level, one of the aspects in which there is a more fabulous room for improvement is in the style of the headphones in this category, something strange considering that they are headphones that invite us to take them down the street, in public transport, libraries and pretty much anywhere you can think of.
At the design level, the Twins ANC has made a good impression on us due to its colorful appearance. The unit we tested is green, and we find it very bright and joyful to look at. Ultimately, the colors are a matter of taste; we have a variety of 6 colors to choose from.
We do not have room for many more surprises in the headset’s design. We appreciate the rubber bands in the same finish and some ear sensors to stop the music as soon as we remove one of the headphones.
In the case of the Twins ANC, the case shares a color with the headphones, in a matte finish that in our unit is a very striking green. Same for the charging cable, also in the same color and showing excellent attention to detail.
Beyond its design, it is not a case that has convinced us much compared to other headphones in its category. The lid is strangely complicated to open and closes too quickly. This means that we accidentally close the top more than once when we try to remove the headphones, leaving the other one inside.
Among other details that could improve the case is greater clarity in the LEDs to indicate the battery since we only have one in the lower LED and one next to the USB C port to indicate that the case is charging. Regarding the charging system, we do not have wireless charging on the base.
Speaking of autonomy, Fresh ‘n Rebel promises 30 hours of battery life with 9 hours of uninterrupted music in normal mode or 7 with active noise cancellation. In our experience, it has been slightly less, with an average of 6 and a half hours on a single charge in actual use, which is still outstanding for headphones with active noise cancellation.
Regarding active noise cancellation, its degree of performance is subtle. We noticed that it would need a little more aggressiveness for environments such as public transport, where although we reduce ambient noise, it does have a degree of improvement.
In terms of sound quality, we find headphones that are not surprising but do not stand out.
Another standout feature of the Twins is its dedicated gaming mode. If we press the touch panel three times, we will activate the game mode, with reduced latency at the cost of lowering the audio quality. The change, which can be noticeable when listening to music, is not so noticeable when playing video games.
The touch panel also allows us to switch between noise cancellation, ambient sound, and normal mode, among other actions. Its keystroke is not entirely intuitive since, at first, you might think it would be in the area marked by the logo, while the touch recognition area is somewhat lower and not too much.
Fresh ‘n Rebel Clam Elite: Best of the Brand
If you are looking for more demanding headphones in terms of comfort, isolation, music quality, versatility, and technology, the brand has also presented the Clam Elite; its best headband headphones focused on better sound quality.
We love the design, and it fits us like a glove. The ear cups admit a particular inclination to better adapt to our head and are covered with vegan leather. We have foam and fabric in the upper part, which increases comfort, especially in long sessions.
On the left side, we have a 3.5 mm jack connection, while on the right side, we find the USB C port for charging, the power button, and the button to switch between normal mode, active noise cancellation, and ambient mode. We liked both methods’ results much more than the Twins, especially the active noise cancellation (in the end, we have more excellent passive isolation).
As for intelligent functions, the right earphone has an internal sensor to stop the music as soon as we take it off, which is fine but could be improved since if you take off the left one, you will not be able to stop the music. It happens again with the right earphone that the side panel is tactile, being able to control the piece with a double touch, activate the Google Assistant by pressing and holding for 3 seconds, advance or rewind music tracks by sliding left or right, as well as upload or easily turn down the volume.
